Kinesiology taping in Summerland
I use stretchy tape for light support between visits, alongside your treatment and exercises.

What is kinesiology taping?
Kinesiology tape is thin, flexible tape that I stick over a muscle or around a joint. It stretches as you move, so it can give a light sense of support without holding the area still. You wear it home and keep it on between visits.
I may use it alongside care for the shoulder, the lower back, the neck, and the knee and other sports injuries. I put it on at the end of a visit, after adjustments, cupping or hands-on work, and it goes with your exercises. It's an extra for between visits, never a treatment on its own.
Your visit, start to finish
Take a seat in the waiting room, and I'll meet you at your appointment time.
-
I assess first
I check the area and decide whether tape suits the movements we're working on.
If tape isn't a good fit, I'll say so.
-
Clean, dry skin
I put the tape on clean, dry skin, usually at the end of the visit.
It takes a few minutes, and you may feel a light pull.
-
Wearing it
I show you how to look after it in the shower and when you exercise.
It can stay on for several days if your skin is comfortable with it.
-
Taking it off
I show you how to peel it off slowly, along the hair, with a little oil if it sticks.
Take it off sooner if it itches, feels too tight or makes things worse, and text me.
Where I may use kinesiology taping
I may add tape for light support to sore joints and muscles, usually alongside exercises. Wondering about something else? Text me and ask.

Is kinesiology taping right for me?
Most people can wear kinesiology tape. Your skin is the main thing I check.
Often a good fit
- you'd like a light sense of support between visits
- you're active and want to keep moving while you recover
- the skin where the tape would go is healthy
- you're happy to look after it at home
Tell me first
- tape, plasters or adhesives have irritated your skin before
- the skin there is broken, sunburnt, irritated or infected
- you have poor circulation or less feeling in that area
- your skin is thin or fragile
- you couldn't easily take the tape off yourself if it bothered you
None of these stop you coming in. I'll test a small piece first or leave the tape off, and support the area another way.
After your visit
Tape is easy to live with once you know a few things. Here's how to look after it, and when to take it off.
Take the tape off straight away if the skin under it turns pale or bluish, goes numb, or blisters, and see a doctor if a rash is bad or doesn't settle.
Wear it for several days
Keep it on for several days if your skin is happy, then take it off. Don't leave it on longer than I said.
Showers are fine
Pat it dry with a towel rather than rubbing, and keep lotion and sunscreen off it.
Peel it off gently
Roll it off slowly in the direction of hair growth. It comes away more easily after a shower.
Text me
If it lifts early or itches. I may not reply until I'm between patients.
Your taping questions
Care that continues between visits
If taping suits your needs, I can apply it after treatment and show you how to care for it. Book a Wednesday visit online, or text me a question first.
